Chelsea moved a step closer to securing a top-four finish in the Premier League with a comprehensive 2-0 home victory over Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Goals from Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud earned the Blues a deserved three points, keeping them four points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United with six games remaining.
Chelsea dominated possession throughout the match, with Sheffield United offering little in attack. The visitors had just one shot on target all game, a tame effort from John Lundstram that was easily saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
At the other end, Chelsea created a host of chances, with Mount eventually breaking the deadlock in the 43rd minute. The England international curled a delightful effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.
Giroud doubled Chelsea's lead just after the hour mark with a close-range finish from a Hakim Ziyech cross. The French striker could have had a hat-trick but he squandered two good chances in the closing stages.
The win sees Chelsea consolidate their position in the top four and they will now look to build on their momentum when they take on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final next weekend.
Sheffield United, meanwhile, remain rooted to the bottom of the table and their hopes of avoiding relegation are now hanging by a thread.
