Filmmaker Behind 'Super Size Me' and CNN Series Host Passes Away

May 23, 2024 - May 24, 2024

NEW YORK (AP) - Morgan Spurlock, an Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker best known for his 2004 film "Super Size Me," has died at the age of 53. The news was first reported by Variety.

Spurlock's cause of death has not yet been released.

In "Super Size Me," Spurlock famously ate nothing but McDonald's food for 30 days to explore the effects of the fast-food diet. The film became a critical and commercial success, drawing attention to the health risks associated with processed foods.

Spurlock later hosted a CNN reality series called "30 Days" from 2008 to 2011, in which he lived as various marginalized people for 30 days each, including as a homeless veteran and a transgender woman.

In addition to his filmmaking work, Spurlock also founded the "Morgan Spurlock Foundation," which supports organizations that promote healthy eating and fight obesity.

Spurlock's death has sparked mourning among his fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
