Cornwall Business Losing A Third Of Trade Due To Scorrier Roadworks

Cornwall business losing 'a third of trade' due to Scorrier roadworks

Businesses say road congestion has decimated trade

Businesses in a Cornish village have reported losing 'a third of their trade' due to roadworks that have caused major congestion in the area.

Frustration among many locals

The resurfacing work has seen temporary traffic lights installed near Scorrier, causing huge queues that have put many people off visiting the area.

Many people that live in the area are also frustrated, with some saying it has taken them over an hour to get to work which is usually a 15-minute journey.

Businesses suffering

One business owner said: "It's been a nightmare. We're losing about a third of our trade because people just can't be bothered to sit in the traffic to get here."

Another added: "It's really frustrating because we're a small business and we rely on local trade. We're just hoping that the roadworks will be finished soon so that we can get back to normal."

Council apologises for disruption

Cornwall Council has apologised for the disruption caused by the roadworks and said that they are doing everything they can to minimise the impact on businesses.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We understand that the roadworks are causing disruption to businesses and residents. We are doing everything we can to minimise the impact, including working extended hours and using temporary traffic lights to keep the road open.

"We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while we carry out these essential works."

Roadworks expected to finish in July

The roadworks are expected to be finished by the end of July.
