Former Bulldogs Standout Facing DUI, Reckless Driving Charges

Athens-Clarke County police arrested Georgia football player Daniel Harris on misdemeanor driving charges early Sunday morning, the latest in a series of traffic-related incidents for the program.

Harris, a redshirt senior defensive back, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving. He was released from jail on $3,200 bond.

The arrest comes less than two months after Georgia coach Kirby Smart suspended Harris for the first half of the Bulldogs' season opener against Oregon for a violation of team rules.

Harris was also involved in a car accident in January 2021 that left him with a concussion. He missed the rest of the season as a result of the injury.

Harris' arrest is the latest in a string of off-field incidents for Georgia players in recent years. In 2020, star wide receiver Arik Gilbert was arrested on charges of making terroristic threats. In 2019, running back Zamir White was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge.

Smart has vowed to crack down on off-field misconduct by his players, but the incidents continue to occur.

"We're going to continue to address these issues head-on," Smart said in a statement. "We're not going to tolerate this type of behavior from our players."

Harris is expected to be back in court on Aug. 17.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to open the 2023 season on Sept. 2 against Samford.
